Wipe your feet before you enter. On On May 15, Slaughterhouse will release their highly anticipated sophomore album, welcome to: Our House, on Shady Records. Thursday (January 26) morning, the four-man group — which consists of Royce da 5'9", Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and Crooked I — also announced a 43-date tour that will begin on March 8 in Dallas and conclude May 3 in Boston.

Slaughterhouse formed in 2008 after the four soloists collaborated for the first time on a Joe Budden song called "Slaughterhouse." The rap quartet enjoyed some indie success when they dropped their self-titled debut on E1 in 2009 and eventually caught the attention of Eminem, who announced that he had signed the group in January 2011.

While Eminem is regarded as a lyrical god in rap circles, Slaughterhouse explained to MTV News that Slim Shady let the group do their own thing when recording the album, allowing the foursome to find their way. "He's kinda walking on eggshells around us creatively. He's telling us basically, 'Do exactly what y'all did last time. We're just gonna do it on a bigger level. Y'all don't need me to make records; y'all can do that,' " Royce told MTV News in September.

Still, just having Em involved in any capacity is exciting for the group. "He's a great person, and I think that's one of the things that makes me most excited about the project," Budden remarked. "Being with him, you just totally forget that he's one of the dopest rappers and he's so successful. He's a great person, and he's still a humongous fan of the culture and very much in tune with what's happening."

Ortiz echoed the sentiment: "He really is a fan, too, though. He's a fan of Slaughterhouse. When he comes in and listens to songs, it's not to critique them; it's to listen.

"I just feel like he's the perfect boss for this group, and we couldn't have a better home," Ortiz concluded.

(AP) ? Chinese investment abroad is drawing scrutiny as global leaders increasingly look to China to prop up the world economy, even as some remain wary of the country's dominance.

The head of one of China's biggest private equity firms said Thursday that foreign prejudice about Chinese investment is unfair and that Chinese investors are still learning a game that much of the world has been playing for decades.

Worries that Europe's slowdown would hurt stronger economies are overshadowing discussions at this week's World Economic Forum in the Swiss ski resort of Davos. Attention turned Thursday to how China can help.

Chinese companies and government funds have been using vast reserves of cash to buy up foreign companies and invest in foreign government bonds in recent years. But with billions of dollars in Chinese investments pouring into their countries, some governments have accused China of seeking to exploit the economic weakness of others to grab valuable natural and technological resources at rock bottom prices.

President Barack Obama's administration also has repeatedly accused China of breaking global trade rules by giving unfair protection to its companies and domestic workers.

"The vast majority of Chinese companies are trying to follow the rules as they understand it," said John Zhao, CEO of Hony Capital. "But many Chinese companies are still trying to learn the rules." His company controls PC maker Lenovo, which bought IBM's computer division in 2005.

The director general of the World Trade Organization, Pascal Lamy, said China will continue to face "public perception problems" from its investments abroad.

"We will see in the years to come, as China's investments grow and grow. ... We will have the same sort of political turbulences as we have had on trade for the last 10 years," he said.

One way for China to ease the rest of the world's fears about its extravagant corporate shopping sprees is be more open about its vast poverty problem at home, said Lamy.

"In order for this to result in a win-win game a number of public perception issues have to be addressed," he said.

Nasdaq CEO Robert Greifeld reminded listeners that China's companies aren't the only ones with a reputation problem.

"We in the Western world have had a long tradition of corporate misdeeds," he said, citing Enron in the United States and Parmalat of Italy ? both of which collapsed after years of hiding massive holes in their accounts.

Yale President Richard C. Levin suggested the rest of the world could be grateful for China's investment interest, as eventually the country of more than 1 billion people will have to start spending more of its cash on problems at home, including the lack of proper social security for an aging population.

"Some fraction of these trillions could be used domestically," he said.

The head of the Asian Development Bank said Asia already has been affected by the ongoing European financial crisis in two ways ? through the withdrawal of credit in Asia by many European banks and financial institutions, and a drop in trade, which will impact China because Europe is its largest export market.

"I really hope that the European financial crisis can be overcome," Haruhiko Kuroda said in an interview with The Associated Press.

British Prime Minister David Cameron, whose country doesn't use the troubled euro, urged the eurozone to impose fiscal discipline and integrate its budget policies more, and expressed support for jointly issued eurobonds.

Cameron defended "genuine market capitalism" against those who favor "state capitalism" such as that practiced in China or Russia. He said free-market countries with rule of law where governments can be successfully challenged in court "have got to stand up and shout about their values. ... I don't think we should give up in this battle at all."

Cameron also joined Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel in backing the idea of a free-trade deal between the European Union and the U.S., claiming that a trans-Atlantic pact could deliver a much-needed boost to global commerce.

The Davos forum, where business and political leaders gather every year in an invitation-only event, is under growing criticism by those who feel it's too removed from the real world.

Activists from Occupy Davos are camping out in igloos and yurts to call attention to income inequality.

"This is a man-made crisis and the people who have caused the crisis, many of whom are in Davos, should be held to account," said Salil Shetty, the secretary general of Amnesty International, told AP.

Leaders at the Davos forum are looking later Thursday at challenges to democratic institutions around the world, including such developments as the Occupy movement.

Nigerian Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and other leaders appealed on behalf of the millions of people who do not have enough food to eat.

"The world can feed itself. Africa can feed itself. The problem is we have vulnerable populations who do not have access," Okonjo-Iweala said.

Malnourished people, particularly kids, are more susceptible to dying from malaria and other diseases in Africa, said Microsoft founder Bill Gates, whose philanthropy has mainly focused on promoting health. He pledged $750 million to the Geneva-based Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

Dropped heart successfully transplanted in Mexico (AP)

MEXICO CITY ? A heart that was dropped on the ground while being transported to a hospital has been successfully transplanted into a 28-year-old hair stylist.

Dr. Jaime Saldivar says Erika Hernandez doesn't yet know that her new heart made national news when a medic stumbled and the plastic-wrapped heart tumbled out of a cooler onto the street two weeks ago.

Saldivar says it will be up to the family to tell her.

A rosy-cheeked Hernandez spoke briefly with reporters on Tuesday and thanked the donor's family, saying "I have no words to express what I'm feeling right now."

Hernandez was born with a congenital heart defect. She received the heart of a man who died in a car accident.

Canadian pipeline needs aboriginal consent: chief

OTTAWA (Reuters) ? Enbridge Inc's controversial plan to build a pipeline to the Pacific Coast from oil-rich Alberta requires the consent of aboriginal bands, some of whom staunchly oppose the project, Canada's top native leader said on Wednesday. The contention underlines the difficulties facing Enbridge as it tries to push through the C$5.5 billion ($5.4 billion) Northern Gateway project, which would cross land belonging to many Indian bands, or first nations, so the oil sands-derived crude could be shipped to Asia and California.

Clock ticking on possible Air Canada strike, lock-out

(Reuters) - Air Canada's refusal to extend a period of conciliated labor talks with its pilots' union raises the chance of a strike or lock-out at the country's biggest airline by as early as February. The 3,000-strong Air Canada Pilots Association (ACPA) said on Tuesday the carrier had declined to extend labor contract negotiations that had been taking place under a conciliator appointed by the federal government.

Ontario finance minister sees targeted budget reforms

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Ontario's spring budget will see targeted changes to the public sector, rather than cuts across all areas, the finance minister of Canada's most populous province said on Wednesday. "I categorically reject that we will do across the board cuts," Ontario Finance Minister Dwight Duncan said in an interview.

Canada education sector toughest job market

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Unemployed workers in Canada's educational services sector faced the toughest job market in the country in the July-September period, according to a new Statistics Canada report on Tuesday. For every 10 unemployed workers in education, there was just one vacancy, the agency's new data on job vacancies in the three-month period showed. The second worst sector was construction where the ratio was 5.1.

Canada's telecoms regulator appoints interim chief

TORONTO (Reuters) - Canada's telecoms and broadcasting regulator appointed Vice-Chairman Leonard Katz as its interim chairman on Wednesday as predecessor Konrad von Finckenstein's term ended. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) said in a statement that Katz will exercise the chairman's powers until the federal cabinet appoints a permanent replacement for von Finckenstein.

Rwanda genocide suspect deported from Canada

KIGALI (Reuters) - A Rwandan man charged with crimes against humanity has been deported from Canada and is due to arrive in the central African country overnight, Rwanda's justice minister said on Tuesday. Leon Mugesera, who lost a 16-year battle to stay in Canada, will face charges of inciting murder, extermination and genocide.

Pilots say Air Canada quit talks; government disagrees

CALGARY/OTTAWA (Reuters) - Air Canada pilots said on Tuesday the airline had abandoned contract talks in the hope that Ottawa would step in to resolve the dispute, but the country's largest carrier said it was awaiting the union's response to its latest offer. Canadian Labour Minister Lisa Raitt also said talks had not broken down and the federally appointed conciliator remained in contact with both parties and was available to assist with negotiations.

Ottawa sees itself as protector of oil sands benefits

VANCOUVER/CALGARY (Reuters) - Canada's government has a responsibility to make sure people can take advantage of the economic benefits Alberta's massive oil deposits can generate, the country's energy minister said on Monday as he once again decried "radicals" bent on stopping Enbridge Inc's Northern Gateway oil pipeline. As about 50 protesters demonstrated noisily outside, Joe Oliver, minister of natural resources, said in Vancouver that "environmental and other radical groups" are indiscriminately opposing any and all large industrial projects and are using Canada's regulatory system as their main battleground.

Canadian minister blasts China ahead of PM's visit

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canada's foreign minister launched an outspoken attack on China's "abhorrent" treatment of religious minorities on Monday, just weeks before Prime Minister Stephen Harper goes to Beijing in a bid to sell more oil. John Baird's comments came as a major surprise, given Canada's right-of-center Conservative government has gradually toned down its attacks on Chinese human rights issues over the years in favor of boosting trade.

Tumblr boasts 120M users, and 15B page views monthly

By Helen A.S. Popkin

Tumblr

One of Tumblr's most beloved memes, reads from his own Ryan Gosling-dedicated Tumblr. That's just how huge Tumblr is now!

Within two weeks of its 2007 launch, plucky microblogging platform Tumblr hit 750,000 users, becoming the?go-to point for single service blogs?(often with NSFW titles) such as "Look at this F---ing Hipster," "STFU, Parents," "Animals with Casts," countless "F--- Yeah"?Tumblogs,??and a collection of infinitely reblogged photo memes such as "Selleck Waterfall Sandwich" and "Jumping Rob Pattinson.

Five years later, the?New York City-based tech company has grown from a content-generating platform to curation central, serving?120 million users and getting 15 billion unique page views every month. These are the numbers CEO David Karp cited from Internet traffic-tracking outfit Quantcast, while discussing Tumblr's evolution Monday at the Digital Life Design Conference in Munich, Germany.

"The early growth that we saw was around creators," Karp told the audience. "Our first community was those creators. We didn?t set out to build a network ... all we wanted to do was make novel tools."

Those novel ? and easy-to-use ? tools took off quickly?however, even though Tumblr originally eschewed the standard social network tools common on similar sites?? such as commenting and tagging ? that more than a few people find annoying.

Nonetheless, Tumblr is now a major influencer in how the distribution of mainstream media is changing. For example, the average Tumblr post is re-blogged on the site nine times, and now features apps for direct posts to Facebook and Twitter.

The content "therefore reaches vastly more people than if it just sat on its original site waiting to be discovered by people visiting it directly," Felix Salmon writes on the Tumblr reblogging phenomenon in his Reuters post, "How sharing disrupts media." "In the future, the most viral stories are going to have a life of their own, being shared across many different platforms and being read by people who will never visit the original site on which they were published."

Probably not that far in the future, either. As Tumblr's "about" page notes, the site now hosts more than 16 billion posts and 42 million blogs. On Monday alone, Tumblr racked up up more than 61 million posts.

Jackson, Wood liken "Hobbit" filming to family reunion (Reuters)

PARK CITY, UTAH (Reuters) ? Filming "The Hobbit" has seemed like a family get together of sorts for director Peter Jackson and at least one of his "Lord of the Rings" stars, Elijah Wood.

"I'm enjoying it much more than I ever thought I would and it literally does feel like a family reunion, which is a nice way to go to work each day," Jackson told Reuters at the Sundance film festival on the red carpet to promote his documentary film, "West of Memphis."

Wood, also at Sundance but for a separate film in which he stars, "Celeste and Jesse Forever," told Reuters that the "Hobbit" shoot was "pretty extraordinary."

"It was very surreal," Wood said. "It kind of felt like no time had passed and suddenly we were back working again. It kind of felt like stepping back into time, family reunion. It was so great."

"The Hobbit," based on J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy novel, is a two-part prequel to Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, which saw Wood in the starring role of Frodo Baggins. The movies became among the biggest blockbusters ever, and the final film, "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," won 11 Oscars including best film and best director for Jackson.

"Hobbit" audiences will see many of the same faces reprising their characters from the "Rings" films, including Wood, Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Andy Serkis as Gollum, Orlando Bloom as Legolas and Cate Blanchett as Galadriel.

Wood said his part is "really small" and joked that when he finished shooting his scenes, he wished didn't have to leave. "I was telling Andy Serkis, who's (also) directing second unit, that I wanted to stow away on (his) unit and keep working," said Wood.

Newcomers to the 'Hobbit' cast include Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins and Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield. Luke Evans, Evangeline Lilly and Lee Pace also are among the cast. The story follows Bilbo on an epic quest with 13 dwarves and the

warrior Thorin to reclaim the Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.

Part one, "An Unexpected Journey," is scheduled for a December 2012 release while part two, "There and Back Again," will land in movie theaters one year later.

Firm stops file sharing after Megaupload case (Reuters)

(Reuters) ? FileSonic, a website providing online data storage, has disabled its file sharing services following a U.S.-led crackdown on a rival website and amid heated debate over Washington's attempts to clamp down on online piracy.

Police in New Zealand and Europe have made a number of arrests in recent days related to an investigation led by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation of the Megaupload.com website.

The group have been accused of engaging in a scheme that took more than $500 million away from copyright holders and generated over $175 million in proceeds from subscriptions and advertising. Megaupload's lawyers have said the company simply offered online storage.

FileSonic, which describes itself as the "Unlimited Storage Company," said in a statement on its website that it would only allow users to access their own files.

"All sharing functionality of FileSonic is now disabled. Our service can only be used to upload and retrieve files that you have uploaded personally."

The firm, which lists addresses in Britain and Hong Kong, did not immediately respond to an email sent requesting further comment on the move.

The Megaupload case is being heard as the debate over online piracy reaches fever pitch in Washington where Congress is trying to craft tougher legislation.

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? Authorities have determined that a dismembered head and other body parts found in a rugged hillside park near the famed "Hollywood" sign are the remains of a man who lived in an a nearby apartment.

The victim was Hervey Medellin, a 66-year-old from Los Angeles, coroner's Lt. David Smith said Friday night.

Investigators, who are searching for suspects, served a search warrant on a Hollywood apartment in the area a day earlier, but it wasn't immediately clear if it was Medellin's apartment.

"They did serve a search warrant last night. They are following clues, and the case is progressing. Guys are working around the clock to find out who did it and find the rest of the body," police Cmdr. Andrew Smith said Friday.

He did not elaborate on why the warrant was served or what, if anything, detectives found.

"We don't want to give out too much information because the investigation is ongoing," Andrew Smith said.

Medellin's head was found Tuesday at Bronson Canyon Park, and police searchers discovered the hands and feet during a two-day search that ended Thursday. The park, a brushy, wooded expanse of rolling hills just below the Hollywood sign, reopened Friday.

Although police have concluded no other body parts were dumped in the park, visitors who find anything they believe are related to the victim's death should contact authorities, Smith said.

More than 120 police officers, firefighters and Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies searched 7 acres of the park after the head was discovered in a plastic grocery bag. The hands and feet were found nearby.

Police have said they believe the victim was killed elsewhere and his remains dumped just inside the park, which attracts hundreds of hikers and dog walkers on most days.

Although rustic, it is located just a short distance from film studios and other Hollywood attractions.

Police believe the body parts were left there no more than a day or two before the head was found because they had barely decomposed and had not been attacked by coyotes that roam through the park at night.

Authorities don't believe the Los Angeles case is connected to a case in Tucson, Ariz., where police found a torso on Jan. 6. They say if the two were related, the remains would have been more badly decomposed.

Medellin's head was found after the dog walker let one of the animals she was shepherding through the park off its leash and it began playing with a plastic bag. When it shook the bag, the head fell out.

Andrew Smith said whoever dumped the head had gone to some effort to conceal it.

"If it had not been for the dog walker, we might never have found it," he said.

The Journal suggests that the decision may be part of the company's attempt to line up a successor for current Intel CEO, Paul Otellini.

PFT's picks: 49ers, Patriots will reach Super Bowl

132699552_crop_650x440Getty Images

After the home teams went 4-0 in the wild-card round, I decided to ride that wave of bad hospitality, and I picked the home teams to win in the division round.

But for the Giants? 17-point win over the Packers, I would have had a perfect weekend.? Rosenthal, who picked both the Packers and Saints to advance, was 2-2.

So, yes, I won.? For a change.

This week, I agonized over both games.? Tempted to flip a coin, I probably would have been better off if I did.

Not just this weekend, but all year.

Ravens at Patriots

Florio?s take:? Yes, the Baltimore offense looked sluggish against the Texans.? During the regular season, however, the Texans had one of the best defenses in the league.? The Patriots, in sharp contrast, had one of the worst.? Still, can the Ravens muster at least one more point than the New England offense will score?? The internal offense-vs.-defense strife in Baltimore seems to be real, and it could lead to an ugly confrontation on the sidelines if the Pats jump out to an early lead and the Ravens can?t respond.? Also, the Pats? defense quietly is improving.? Throw in the fact that the Patriots would love to give owner Robert Kraft something about which to feel good as he continues to mourn his wife?s passing (Myra Kraft?s initials remain on their jerseys), Tom Brady?s memory of a home thrashing two years ago from the Ravens, and a burning desire by Brady and Bill Belichick to finally get that fourth championship, and it?s hard to envision the Patriots losing.

Florio?s pick:? Patriots 27, Ravens 20.

Rosenthal?s take: This game comes down to two questions. Is the Ravens defense more dominant than the Patriots offense? After watching Houston?s running game push Baltimore around last week, I?m rolling with the Patriots there. Terrell Suggs disappears too often. New England?s tight ends are too hard to defend.? Second question: Does the good Joe Flacco show up this week? All season, I?ve thought a great quarterback would take the Patriots out in the playoffs. New England doesn?t have to face a great quarterback in the AFC. The health of Patrick Chung, Brandon Spikes, Dane Fletcher, and the rest of the Patriots no-names all help make the New England defense competent enough.

Rosenthal?s pick: Patriots 31, Ravens 27.

Giants at 49ers

Florio?s take:? The Giants are the best team remaining, with a high-powered offense to go with a staunch defense.? And I?m inclined to pick them to win, in part because I?ve picked them to lose twice in the playoffs and in part because a clash between the Giants and Patriots in the Super Bowl would generate enormous interest and ratings and page views.? But there?s something intangible, and special, about the 49ers and coach Jim Harbaugh.? All week long, I believed I?d pick the Giants, and that then the 49ers would win.? With rain likely to make it harder for the Giants? passing game to fire on all cylinders, look for that hard-hitting San Fran defense and a potent-when-it-needs-to-be offense to find a way.? Yes, the Giants are the better team.? But the 49ers, I believe, will have more points on the scoreboard when the game is finally over.

Florio?s pick:? 49ers 24, Giants 21.

Rosenthal?s take: Eli Manning has the fourth quarter reputation, but Alex Smith has the seven fourth quarter comebacks. New York?s offensive line is a weakness that hasn?t been exposed the last two weeks, but it will show up on Sunday.? San Francisco can get more consistent pressure on Eli Manning with their front seven and they?ll have the more consistent running game. Counting on Eli to keep converting beautiful low percentage third-and-long throws is a difficult way to win week after week. The 49ers magic will continue.

Rosenthal?s pick: 49ers 24, Giants 20.

America's lunch hour on the endangered list

BloomImage RF via Getty Images

Multitasking eats the lunch hour. More people than ever in America are skipping lunch hours and eating at their desks instead.

By Eve Tahmincioglu

Employees in Hong Kong?s financial district staged a protest last week because their lunch break of 90 minutes was going to be shortened to only an hour.

Here in the United States,?lunch hour is unheard of for many U.S. workers, yet nobody is marching in the streets over it.

Americans?don?t?seem to have enough time?for an actual lunch break. Only 35 percent of employees in this country say they almost always take a lunch break, according to a web?survey in 2011 of about 750 respondents by Right Management, an HR consulting firm. Another poll by the company taken in 2010 that surveyed?2,300 found nearly 50 percent?of U.S. workers consistently took time off for a midday meal.

?Lunch patterns allow us to infer a few things about the North American workplace; and one thing that we already know is that the pressure for productivity and performance can be relentless,? said Michael Haid, senior vice president of talent management at Right Management. ?This pressure is showing up in various ways like our finding that one-in-three employees are very likely now in the habit of taking lunch at their computers and phones and with supervisors and colleagues.?

About 65 percent of employees either eat at their desk or don?t take lunch breaks at all, according to the company?s recent survey.

It?s not just rank and file workers. A study by CareerBuilder found that?about 40 percent of corporate executives brownbag their lunches, while only 19 percent eat out at a sit-down restaurant, and 17 percent get fast food.

And it?s women executives who seem most lunch-away-from-the-office adverse. More than half, or 57 percent, of women polled said they brought their lunch from home, compared to 36 percent among their male manager counterparts.

Sure, it looks good if you?re busting your butt to get work done, especially in this tough job market, but not taking time out for a healthy lunch could have far-reaching ramifications.

The lunch hour was always seen as a time to get away from the office or factory floor, and that's what workplace experts say workers need to get the full benefits of a meal break.?

It's critical for workers to leave the office for lunch, said career and executive coach Rebecca Weingarten, in order "to clear their heads and gain perspective on what they're working on. Also if you're stumped with a problem, thinking about something else actually helps the brain process and come up with a solution."

And Doug Wright, head of clinical development for European insurance firm Aviva Health, which published a report on workers eating habits late last year, added:??It?s well documented that eating more healthily can improve general wellbeing and life expectancy, so there are countless benefits to adopting this approach in the workplace, It?s also important for people to take a break from their desks where possible as this can help improve both morale and efficiency for employees.?

There are no federal laws mandating lunch breaks. ?It?s actually something that?s regulated on a state-by-state basis,? said Marc Mandelman, an employment attorney for Proskauer in New York.

Photoblog: Adios a la siesta? Spain's long lunches under threat

In New York, he explained, ?you have to provide at least a half an hour lunch break to employees in most situations. But depending on the industry, there may be different requirements.?

There are 22 states with some sort of meal-break mandates on the books, according to Department of Labor data. See?this?chart to find out?if your state is one of them.

Most white-collar jobs, Mandelman continued, generally provide about an hour for meal breaks.

Even so, that doesn?t mean workers?are taking the time to munch in peace.

?I wonder if the reluctance to take a break is an expression of devotion or a negative consequence of the unrelenting pressure some organizations are exerting on their workforces to get more done with fewer resources,? said Haid. ?Taking time away from one?s desk for lunch would help reduce tension and boost energy. But our research results might lead us to ask is that still a real option for people now??

Do you feel pressure not to take a lunch break?

Chinese premier stresses need to keep Hormuz open (AP)

DOHA, Qatar ? China's premier, touring the oil-rich Gulf, on Wednesday stressed the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open after threats by Iran to shut the strategic waterway.

During a visit to the Qatari capital Doha, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said ensuring the security of the strait is in all nations' interests. About a fifth of the world's oil supply flows through the narrow strait.

"Any extremist action in this region will go against the will of all people in the world," he said following meetings with Qatar's ruling emir and other officials.

China is a major customer for Iran's oil and gas. It has opposed tighter sanctions on Iran over Tehran's disputed nuclear program and has called for a Middle East free of atomic weapons.

China and government-run Qatar Petroleum agreed to work together to develop a petrochemical facility in China, Wen said. Financial details were not disclosed.

The Chinese premier's Gulf tour has also taken him to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. It was the first such visit by a Chinese prime minister to Saudi Arabia in 20 years, and to the other two Gulf countries since diplomatic relations were established in the 1980s.

British Mother Forced To Take Son to Germany for Cancer Surgery

Sam-KnightonIt has been revealed recently that a mother who was forced to take her son suffering from cancer to Germany for surgery would return England this Friday. It is not that Zac Knighton?s family did not try to get his surgery in the NHS but every time it got cancelled.

This led Zac?s mother Sam Knighton, 43, to take him to Germany at the University Hospital Greifswald which specializes in treating neuroblastoma. It is one of the forms of the cancer from which seven-year-old Zac was suffering from.

Only good part of this incident that the NHS agreed to help the mother and assured that they would pay the travel expenditure as well as the cost of the surgery that had taken place in Germany. It was in 2008 when Zac got diagnosed with cancer in the abdomen. Then as well, he was taken to Germany for second opinion but at the family?s cost.

The family thought that they would get the surgery done in England, but they were refused twice at different hospitals but with a same reason and that was shortage of pediatric beds.

First they went to Nottingham?s Queen?s Medical Centre and the operation got scheduled. But at last moment the operation got canceled due to the shortage of pediatric beds. They then approached Leicester Royal Infirmary which agreed to conduct the operation in which Zac?s cancerous lymph nodes were to be removed.

Yet again the operation got cancelled just one hour before the surgery due to the same reason that there was unavailability of pediatric beds. Both the incidents agitated Sam who talked to Zac?s consultant in Germany and fixed an operation date.

The operation is done and Zac is having great recovery. The family is reported to fly back to England this Friday.

Apple iPad 3: Speculation Surrounds Early March Release

Apple is tipped to be holding a media event next month where it will announce the hotly anticipated iPad 3, just under a year after the iPad 2 broke cover.

Japanese Apple blog Macotakara believes that the tech giant is looking to hold the iPad 3 debut in early February, with a product release scheduled for early March, one year on from the iPad 2, which went on sale on March 11, 2011.

Macotakara cited sources familiar with the iPad production line in Asia and the US: "According to Asian supplier and a source in United States, Apple seems to prepare to hold Special Event in early February."

While the Japanese site doesn't provide much more information than that, this new snippet of news does tally with earlier reports from Bloomberg, stating that production of the iPad 3 had already begun, and would reach maximum capacity by February.

Like us on Facebook

The iPad 3 is widely expected to feature a super-high resolution Retina display as its key selling point; a Retina screen would offer twice the resolution of the outgoing iPad 2, but may cause the iPad 3 to be slightly thicker than its predecessor.

A speed bump from the adoption of a new quad-core A6 processor is also on the cards, but as the design as a whole isn't expected to change, some speculation now surrounds the name, which may be iPad 2S to reflect a minor update to the tablet and not a major overhaul.

Apple is holding a media event geared towards education in New York on Thursday, January 19; although this announcement may introduce interactive textbooks which will, presumably, run on the iPad, it is highly unlikely that any new hardware will be announced at the same time.?

S&P, Greek standoff pressure euro zone to boost defenses (Reuters)

LONDON (Reuters) ? Financial markets are unlikely to be derailed by mass euro zone downgrades but with Greek debt talks at an impasse, pressure has been loaded on the bloc to shore up its defenses and glimmers of optimism from last week have been firmly doused.

With the United States and Japan already downgraded from "AAA" the likes of France and Austria are in good company and Standard & Poor's ratings cuts had been flagged in December. Nonetheless, the upbeat tone that surrounded last week's strong Spanish bond auction now seems a distant memory.

"The euro zone crisis is now dominating market activity again, after a period in which better economic news from the U.S., and easier monetary policy in China had helped markets move higher," said Dominic Rossi, chief investment officer, equities, at Fidelity Worldwide Investment.

U.S. markets are closed Monday for the Martin Luther King holiday but the euro zone will not have to wait long for a test of investor appetite.

France will attempt to sell up to 8 billion euros of debt on Thursday and Spain will tap the market again after a successful bond auction last week where it raised twice as much as expected at lower borrowing costs.

Analysts put that success down to the flood of cheap 3-year money the European Central Bank pushed into the banking system in December. It will make the same offer in February, fostering hopes that it can avert a credit crunch and helped bolster struggling euro zone debt issuers to boot.

But the twin blows of the serial S&P downgrades and the stalled Greek bond swap talks have cast another pall of gloom. This time, Spain will try to sell longer-term debt, which could be tougher.

"While the market impact of the downgrades is unlikely to be very significant in the short term, they serve as a stark reminder that the euro area sovereign crisis is here to stay," analysts at RBS said. "We continue to expect the crisis to deepen eventually leading to further widening in spreads across countries vis-a-vis Germany."

After downgrading nine of the euro zone's 17 countries, S&P said it would decide shortly whether to do the same for the currency area's EFSF bailout fund. Ratings cuts for commercial banks are probably imminent too.

"Speculation around an EFSF downgrade will now grow, complicating its ability to raise capital and displace the ECB in the sovereign bond purchasing program," Rossi said. "Both the ECB and the IMF will get sucked further into central roles."

A senior euro zone official said the EFSF could retain its AAA rating with Standard & Poor's through higher guarantees from the euro zone's remaining triple A countries or lower lending capacity.

Negotiations with the banks on a bond swap scheme designed to eat into Greece's colossal debts are expected to restart on Wednesday with Athens warning of catastrophe if they fall apart.

Without a deal, a planned 130 billion euros Greek bailout of which the bond swap is a vital part will be fundamentally holed, raising the prospect of default in March when massive bond payments are due. That, rather than the long-anticipated S&P downgrades, looks to be the bigger worry for investors.

"At this stage, there is a growing risk of a coercive rather than voluntary debt restructuring, even though the latter is still our base case," said Joachim Fels, economist at Morgan Stanley.

SENSE OF URGENCY

Euro zone leaders do seem to be gripped with a sense of urgency although they have failed for nearly three years to get on the top of the sovereign debt crisis born in Greece.

Rather than launch a broadside at S&P, German Chancellor Angela Merkel Saturday said she and her fellow leaders must act more swiftly to impose common fiscal rules and get a permanent rescue fund up and running.

"Although nobody is excited about the S&P decision, the step may actually help to get a quick agreement on the fiscal compact," a German government official said.

While not expecting a euro zone break up, S&P blamed its leaders for focusing too much on cutting debts and not sufficiently on competitiveness and growth.

The ratings agency, and many economists, say austerity for its own sake will be self-defeating - deepening economic downturns and cutting government revenues needed to lower debt.

"Market participants are worried about a vicious circle in which they tighten, growth weakens, the deficits get bigger despite the efforts to tighten," said Jim O'Neill, chairman of Goldman Sachs Asset Management.

Ahead of an EU summit on January 30 which will attempt to alight upon a growth strategy, shuttle diplomacy continues apace this week.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy sees Spain's Mariano Rajoy in Madrid Monday. Italian premier Mario Monti visits Britain's David Cameron in London Wednesday, then hosts Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Rome at the end of the week.

Aside from Greece it is Italy, facing massive bond repayments over the next three months, which poses the biggest threat to the euro zone. It was downgraded two notches by S&P.

"More than the moves on France and Austria, which are relatively symbolic and to a large extent reflected in prices already, the Italian downgrade might be key going forward," said Laurent Fransolet at Barclays Capital. "Italy is at BBB+ now by S&P, but is on watch negative by Fitch and on negative outlook by Moody's and therefore some further downgrades are likely."

The more upbeat view is that, in the end, Europe's leaders will not allow the whole edifice to collapse, despite German and ECB reservations about many of the policy options. But even optimists say uncertainty will reign for some time.

"Some day the markets will wake up and see that Europe is not going to allow a collapse. If they get through the next six months, you can see the tide turning. Sentiment changes very rapidly," said John Fitzgerald of the Economic and Social Research Institute, a Dublin-based think tank, who also sits on the board of the Irish central bank.

Europe is the biggest threat to the global economy, JP Morgan's chief executive Jamie Dimon told German newspaper Die Welt's Sunday edition. "I thought Europe would muddle through. I still believe that," he was quoted as saying.

Tea Party "kingmaker" DeMint focuses on Senate races (Reuters)

MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina (Reuters) ? Everybody was waiting for Jim DeMint. Mitt Romney had reason to hope the South Carolina senator would repeat his 2008 endorsement of his presidential bid.

DeMint is the hero of conservatives in South Carolina, so his backing might well have clinched the crucial state for Romney. Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul had just as much reason to hope DeMint might support them, and put him in the role of kingmaker in the Republican race for the White House.

At a convention of the conservative Tea Party movement in Myrtle Beach on Sunday, DeMint made clear, however, they could all stop holding their collective breath.

The Republican lawmaker, who had refused to endorse anyone, said he was definitely staying on the sidelines.

"We've got a presidential race coming up and we've got a lot of good candidates," he said.

"I know that probably folks in this room feel strongly about them in a lot of different ways, and that's why I'm not getting involved," he added to laughter from the audience.

The Tea Party - with its calls for reduced government spending and regulation - is the hottest movement within the Republican Party. It helped more than three dozen conservative candidates get elected to Congress in the 2010 elections, helping Republicans regain control of the House of Representatives.

But the Tea Party's impact on the presidential campaign has been relatively muted. There is no consensus Tea Party candidate, because the movement is split among conservatives Gingrich, Santorum and Paul. Republicans are selecting a candidate to challenge Democratic President Barack Obama in the November election.

It is also unclear whether the movement that helped elect candidates from conservative, mostly white congressional districts will have the same appeal in national elections, in which the electorate is more diverse.

So instead of picking a favorite for the White House race, DeMint has a different strategy: to strengthen the Tea Party in the Senate and forge a bastion of fiscal conservatism against whoever wins the presidency.

"We need not only to take a majority in the Senate," DeMint told the convention. "We need a conservative majority in the Senate."

The idea, he said, was to have enough conservative Republicans in the chamber to keep the occupant of the White House, "whoever it is," in check. Democrats hold a 53-47 majority in the Senate, but many of their seats are up for grabs in the November elections.

The key to DeMint's Senate plan is a fundraising group, the Senate Conservatives Fund, which says it has so far raised $3.5 million for the 2012 campaign cycle. It has endorsed four Senate candidates in Texas, Ohio, Nebraska and Wisconsin.

In DeMint's newly published book, "Now or Never: Saving America From Economic Collapse," the senator lists the questions that the Senate Conservatives Fund asks candidates before backing them, including "Will you oppose all net tax increases?"

"Ultimately, Jim wants to see 10 to 15 conservative senators who won't change their minds on core issues," said David Woodard, a politics professor at Clemson University, who has known DeMint for 20 years and co-authored "Why We Whisper" with the senator, a book published in 2007.

"That's the way he sees his role."

DeMint has come under pressure to give a nod to a conservative presidential candidate who can stop Romney, a moderate former Massachusetts governor who is the front-runner ahead of Saturday's Republican primary in South Carolina.

The vote is seen by many as a last chance for former House Speaker Gingrich, former Pennsylvania Senator Santorum and Texas Governor Rick Perry to prove they can compete against Romney.

DeMint endorsed Romney in his failed presidential bid in 2008, before the Tea Party movement took off.

Friends, academics, Republican strategists and even opponents in South Carolina say DeMint will not go back on his word to stay on the sidelines.

"I have to say that while I disagree with Jim on many things, I have to admire his consistency and his commitment to his philosophy," said South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Dick Harpootlian. "If DeMint endorsed Romney, he'd be the Republican nominee tomorrow."

"But as he has said he won't endorse anyone, I don't believe he will," Harpootlian added.

THE DEMINT DOCTRINE

DeMint has a record of going against the Republican Party establishment in the Senate.

Almost since he was first elected to the Senate in 2004, he has fought against party leadership over government spending and taxation, issues crucial to Tea Party insurgents bent on pulling the Republican Party further to the right.

"Jim was Tea Party before there was a Tea Party," Harpootlian said.

DeMint bucked the party line in 2010 by backing conservative Senate candidates like Marco Rubio in Florida against those favored by party leadership.

This year, his mission to add more conservatives is aimed at cutting spending, getting tough on illegal immigration, and repealing Obama's healthcare overhaul that requires people to buy health insurance by 2014 or face tax penalties.

Call it the DeMint doctrine.

He ruled out compromising with Democrats in Congress at a speech to the Tea Party convention on Saturday.

"The Democratic Party today is the party of those dependent on government who want more government. That's why we can't compromise with them, we have to beat them," DeMint said.

His rhetoric went down well at the 2010 elections but many voters are now fed up with gridlock in Congress, a sentiment that Obama is playing on as part of his re-election bid.

"If people like Jim DeMint refuse to back down and try to find a way to compromise with the other side, we end up with gridlock, which is what we've seen over the past year," said Danielle Vinson, professor of politics at Furman University in South Carolina.

"The policy of no compromise runs the risk of turning the Republicans into the minority party if the rest of the country doesn't find his (DeMint's) arguments compelling," she said.

Born in Greenville, South Carolina, in 1951, DeMint's parents divorced when he was a child. He was raised by his mother and in his book "Saving Freedom" he describes a hard upbringing.

After college, he worked in market research before setting up his own public relations firm The DeMint Group.

Jim Guth, a politics professor at Furman University, said DeMint's experience as a business owner heavily influenced his political career.

"He really sees issues of spending and taxes from the perspective of a small business owner," he said. "It's important to understand that background."

"DeMint has little sympathy for big corporations," Guth added. "He supports lower taxes, but he would equalize taxes across the board and close loopholes for corporations."

DeMint was elected to the House of Representatives in 1998 but unlike his predecessors who backed the textile industry in his district, DeMint spoke out in favor of free trade. Later in the Senate, he made a point of speaking out against the use of "earmarks" - used by lawmakers to bring federal funding home for pet projects.

In 2010, DeMint resisted calls for a congressional earmark to renovate the Port of Charleston so it could handle large cargo ships.

"There have been some frustrations in the business community about DeMint's ideological fervor and his refusal to bring home the bacon to South Carolina," said Chip Felkel, a Republican consultant in the state. "He took some flak for it, but that's just who he is. When he says something, he means it."

"Unlike some people, this is a deep personal calling for him and his consistency has made him hugely popular with Republican voters in South Carolina," he added.

(AP) ? At 70, Muhammad Ali is "still the greatest" to friends and admirers worldwide.

The boxing champ basked in chants of "Ali! Ali!" as hundreds of supporters cheered him on Saturday night with a hearty rendering of "Happy Birthday" during his 70th birthday celebration in his Kentucky hometown. Never mind that Ali actually turns 70 years old on Tuesday: the private party in his hometown is the first of five planned in the next few months.

As party-goers mingled in a lobby of the Muhammad Ali Center before the festivities, Ali walked slowly to a second-floor balcony overlooking them. The crowd immediately began to clap, then broke into effusive chants and singing. The three-time world heavyweight champion, who is battling Parkinson's disease, leaned against a rail and raised his right hand to wave to the crowd. Then he joined his party out of view of the public and the press.

Former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis said his boyhood idol is "still the greatest."

"I feel so proud and honored that we're able to show our feelings and show our support for him," Lewis said.

The guest list numbered 350 for the private party, which doubled as a $1,000-per-person fundraiser for the Ali Center, a six-year-old cultural and education complex designed to be a legacy to his social activism. The six-story center also retraces Ali's career, including his epic bouts against Joe Frazier, George Foreman and Sonny Liston.

The guest list included Ali's trainer Angelo Dundee and three American hikers who were imprisoned in Iran. Ali, perhaps the most prominent U.S. Muslim, lobbied for their release. Rocker John Mellencamp headlined the entertainment.

Dundee, who traveled from Clearwater, Fla., for the celebration, said he hears from Ali about once a month.

"We're like family," Dundee told The Courier-Journal of Louisville. "We've always been family and we're always going to be family. He'll say, 'Angie, I want to come and train. That's what I miss the most. Being in the gym. Working up a sweat.'"

Guests paid tribute to Ali before filling a banquet hall for a party closed to the public.

"The reason I loved him is because of his confidence," University of Kentucky men's basketball coach John Calipari said. "He would talk and then back it up. He had great courage and who had more fun than him?"

The self-proclaimed "Greatest of All Time" remains one of the world's most recognizable figures, even though he's been largely absent from the public eye recently as he fights Parkinson's disease.

His wife Lonnie Ali said recently that the boxing great has mixed feelings about the landmark birthday.

"He's glad he's here to turn 70, but he wants to be reassured he doesn't look 70," she said.

Born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. on Jan. 17, 1942, Ali took up boxing at age 12, when his bike was stolen and he wanted to find and whip the culprit. The boy was introduced to Joe Martin, a police officer who coached boxing at a local gym.

Ali flourished in the ring, becoming a top amateur and Olympic gold medalist. He made his professional debut in Louisville and arranged for a local children's hospital to receive proceeds from the fight.

Lewis said Ali ranks as the greatest of heavyweights, and he said he was inspired by Ali's fights.

"I used to get mad if I didn't see the Ali shuffle," Lewis said. "So I was always watching him, expecting some type of antic."

Ali won the heavyweight title in 1964, defeating the heavily favored Sonny Liston. Soon after, Ali - who was raised in a Baptist family - announced his conversion to Islam and changed his name.

While in his prime, Ali was stripped of his heavyweight crown in 1967 for refusing to be drafted for military service during the Vietnam War. He cited his religious beliefs as the reason for his refusal.

His decision alienated Ali from many across the U.S. and resulted in a draft-evasion conviction. Ali found himself embroiled in a long legal fight that ended in 1971, when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in his favor.

Ali lost his first bid to regain the heavyweight crown when Frazier knocked him down and took a decision in the "Fight of the Century" at Madison Square Garden in 1971. Ali regained the heavyweight title in 1974, defeating Foreman in the "Rumble in the Jungle." A year later, he outlasted Frazier in the epic "Thrilla in Manila" bout.

Last year, a frail Ali rose from his seat and clapped for his deceased rival at Frazier's funeral.

Ali's last title came in 1978 when he defeated Leon Spinks.

Ali retired from boxing in 1981 and devoted himself to social causes. He traveled the world on humanitarian missions. In 2005, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

How to Use Your Smartphone to Remotely Send Downloads to Your Home Computer [Video]

How to Use Your Smartphone to Remotely Send Downloads to Your Home ComputerSometimes you come across a file you want to download but all you've got is your smartphone. Perhaps it's a standard file, perhaps it's a torrent. Whatever the case may be, it's relatively simple to get your smartphone to tell your home computer to get started on that download from afar. Here's how.

Remotely Download Web-Hosted Files

How to Use Your Smartphone to Remotely Send Downloads to Your Home Computer If you want to download a file to your computer that's hosted somewhere on the web, this is the method you want to use. All you need is an account with Dropbox (our favorite file-syncing tool) and a web browser on your smartphone. To download that file to your home computer from the comfort of your phone, just follow these steps (or watch the video to the left):

  1. Grab the URL of the file you want to download on your smartphone.
  2. Open any web browser on your smartphone and head over to urldroplet.com.
  3. Enter the URL in URL Droplet's only text field and click the "Log In" button.
  4. Log into your Dropbox account and grant access to URL Droplet.
  5. When you're back on the main URL Droplet page, scroll down to the bottom of the screen and see if the file is listed as queued. If not, just add it again via URL Droplet's only text field and click the "Save" button.
  6. It'll take a few minutes for the file to show up in your Dropbox, but when it does it'll be in the root folder and you can use it when you get back to any computer that's syncing your Dropbox folder.

Pretty easy! If you want to see a walkthrough, watch the video above.

Alternatively, if you want to do this with a native iPhone app, download Drop It ($1). For another option, your could set If This Then That to add, for example, emailed file URLs to your Dropbox (learn how to use it with our guide).

Remotely Download Torrents

How to Use Your Smartphone to Remotely Send Downloads to Your Home ComputerThere are a few ways to remotely download torrents, and we have a bunch of guides to help you do it. If you want to stick with the same basic method outlined above, you can send .torrent files remotely to your Dropbox folder. For a little more control, though, you might prefer just using uTorrent's mobile interface to remotely schedule torrents instead:

  1. Grab a copy of uTorrent (if you don't have one already).
  2. Open up uTorrent and edit its Preferences/Settings.
  3. Go to the "Remote" tab and check the box next to "Enable uTorrent Remote".
  4. Enter a unique computer name and a password. If your computer name is accepted and isn't in use by anyone else, you'll be asked to answer a new security question. Fill in your answer and press okay.
  5. Go to remote.utorrent.com in your smartphone's web browser and log in with your computer's name and password.
  6. Press the + button to add a new torrent via URL.

That's all there is to it! For a more detailed walkthrough, see our recent guide to monitoring your BitTorrent downloads from any computer or mobile device.

Remotely Download Files from Usenet

How to Use Your Smartphone to Remotely Send Downloads to Your Home ComputerUsing your smartphone to tell your home computer to remotely download files from Usenet is really easy to do. You just need the right app, SABnzbd+ running on that home computer, and the port SABnzbd+ runs on (8080 by default) forwarded to that computer via your router's admin software. Then you can use the relevant app for your smartphone to remotely schedule downloads. That's the process in a nutshell. Here's the step by step:

  1. Presumably you've already got a Usenet account and set up SABnzbd+, but if not you need to do that.
  2. Forward port 8080 (or whatever port you're using) to the IP address of the computer running SABnzbd+. If you don't know how to do this, read our port forwarding guide.
  3. Now you need an app for your smartphone. If you're using an iPhone, download myNZB ($3). For Android, download, NZBAir ($5), sabdroidplus (Free), NZBDroid (Free, $1), or one of the many other options.
  4. Once you've downloaded your NZB-adding app of choice, go into SABnzbd+ on your computer, grab your API key. You can find it by choosing Config -> General, then scrolling down the page to find the "API Key", and copy it. You can either do this directly on your phone or do it on your computer and send the API key to your phone via email (or whatever method you prefer).
  5. Go into the settings on the app you chose and enter your SABnzbd+ credentials. This will generally include your username, password, and API key. On the iPhone, you'll find this in the myNZB settings in the Settings app?not in the myNZB app. On Android, the location will vary a little because we're not talking about a multiple apps, but you'll find the settings you're looking for by pressing the menu button on your device.

Now you're all set up! You can now use your SAB-compatible app to search for and schedule Usenet downloads with ease.
